Edge House

Architects:Strom Architects
Location: Monterey, California, USA

Edge House is a striking coastal retreat located on the rocky shoreline of Big Sur, at the northern gateway to California’s iconic coastal road. Designed by Ström Architects, the home responds to its spectacular setting with a sculptural three-pointed plan that embraces ocean views, natural light, and the surrounding landscape.

Our visualisations aimed to highlight both the home’s bold architectural form and its serene atmosphere - showing how the structure sits lightly on the land while offering moments of drama and intimacy throughout.

The layout comprises three splayed wings that radiate from a central core, each angled to frame a different aspect of the site. One wing houses the bedrooms, another contains the living areas, and the third offers additional spaces for family connection and relaxation. A sweeping roofline and extensive glazing enhance the fluid relationship between inside and out.

From the sunken lounge with a circular skylight to the cantilevered pool deck and the sculptural wine-cellar staircase, Edge House celebrates materiality, light, and detail. Natural stone, concrete, timber, and glass come together in a refined palette that reflects the textures and tones of the coastal landscape.

Edge House is more than a home - it’s a place designed for gathering, reflection, and immersion in nature.
